He founded the Steamworks Pub initially with the aim of marketing craft beer. During this duration, craft beer was garnering increased traction all over Canada. In fact, Eli Gershkovitch was well aware that expansion of the craft beer industry would only come with increased demand. Hence, the pub opened its doors to the public with a 184 seating capacity.
Before embarking into the beer industry, Eli Gershkovitch was a practicing lawyer based in Vancouver. During this time, he helped numerous clients with issues pertaining liquor licenses. This endeavor helped to cultivate his interest in the beer industry. Since opening Steamworks Pub with only 184 seats, it has grown into a 754 seater space. Additionally, Steamworks Brewery has developed from a 2,000 helicopter facility in Gastown to a 40,000 facility based in Burnaby.
