Amy’s KitchenCalifornia has been on the forefront for changing the way people eat and the foods they consume. Vegan and vegetarian foods have been popular in California for much longer than most other states. As such, it’s not a surprise that one particular vegan restaurant and company, Amy’s Kitchen, is leading the way.

Amy’s Kitchen was started in 1987 by Rachel and Andy Berliner. Believing that food should be safe, clean, and delicious, they sought to create comfort food that not only fit with their personal beliefs, but also fit into a healthy vegan or vegetarian diet. From the simple pot pie to the vast menu that now is sold in stores and in their California restaurants, customers can enjoy healthy, organic eating as it was meant to be.

Many of the foods the Berliners have created in their home kitchen and restaurant locations are versatile comfort foods. Pizza, mac and cheese, burritos, soups, etc., all revolve around organic cheeses, black beans, fresh veggies, and gluten free ingredients. Customers can enjoy these items in person at an Amy’s Kitchen in the San Francisco airport, Sonoma, and other select locations.

Amy’s KitchenEventually, the Berliners chose to expand into the frozen food business. However, they did not want their products made with “surprise” ingredients or mass-produced in a way that wasn’t in keeping with their company. They continue to produce their food and freeze it for sale in local and national markets. Ingredients are purchased only from verified growers of sustainable and organic farms.
